Digital Clutter Cleanup Tip #4

Woman using desktop computer

Clear the Digital Clutter Cleanup Challenge! 🏆 Goal: Reduce your desktop and download folder items by 30% and create at least 3 new organizational folders. Log your initial and final file counts for both areas.

💡Tip: Implement a "touch-it-once" policy for new downloads - immediately delete, use, or file them appropriately.

⭐ Benefits: A clean desktop and organized downloads folder improve system performance, reduce visual clutter, and help you locate files quickly.

Let's Get Started

A cluttered desktop and overflowing downloads folder can slow down your computer and make finding important files challenging. Today's challenge will help you declutter these areas and establish a more organized digital workspace.

Follow these three simple steps:

  1. Sort Through Documents: Review all files on your desktop and in your downloads folder. Be honest about what you really need to keep. Tip: Sort files by date to easily identify old, potentially unnecessary items.
  2. Delete Unnecessary Files: Remove duplicate files, outdated documents, and anything you no longer need. Don't forget to empty your trash afterward. Note: Consider moving rarely used but necessary files to an external drive or cloud storage.
  3. Create a Logical Folder Structure: Organize remaining files into at least 3 new folders with clear, descriptive names. Consider categories like "Current Semester," "Research Papers," or "Personal Projects." Example structure: Main folder "MSU Work" with subfolders "Classes," "Internships," and "Campus Activities"
