Adjunct Faculty Hiring

New Hiring Process for Adjunct Faculty

The Office of Human Resources has enhanced the Morgan Employment Management System (MEMS) to include adjunct faculty postings. The streamlined approval business process for adjunct faculty postings only requires the approval of the chair and dean. This will allow human resources to expeditiously post for an adjunct faculty department position so that department chairs will have a continuous pool of candidates for your staffing needs.

As we roll out this new hiring process, the Office of Human Resources is offering three Adjunct Faculty Hiring Workshops for MEMS and EPAF Initiators in each department who will be initiating the hiring process for adjunct faculty. Dates for the workshops will be communicated shortly.

New Adjunct Faculty

Until the Adjunct Faculty Pools in MEMS are fully operational, hiring for new adjunct faculty is initiated through the Employee ID Setup form.

The submission of this form will trigger OHR to submit a background check and complete the employee set-up*. Once the background check has cleared, OHR will provide the hiring department with the necessary information to complete an EPAF.

*This process replaces the Temporary Faculty Set-up workflow in Banner.

Current and Returning Adjunct Faculty

Contracts for current Adjunct Faculty should be submitted directly through the EPAF process.

If a returning faculty has had a gap in service of more than one year, a Faculty Reactivation Form will need to be submitted before an EPAF can be submitted.

Adjunct Faculty FAQs

Who are considered current vs returning Adjunct Faculty?

If an Adjunct Faculty has had a gap in service of more than one year, they will need to go through the Employee ID Setup again to update their background check on file and are considered returning faculty.

Where did the Temporary Faculty Setup workflow go?

The 'Temporary Faculty Set-up' workflow in Banner has been replaced with the following form: Employee ID Setup

How do Adjunct Faculty Candidate Pools work?

Adjunct Faculty candidates will submit an application through MEMS using a departmental pool link on the Morgan career website. If selected, the department will move the candidate in MEMS to 'recommended for hire'. This process will trigger OHR to submit a background check and complete the Employee ID Set-up. Once the background check has cleared, OHR will provide the department with the necessary information to complete an EPAF.

How are new Adjunct Faculty onboarded?

Once the contract has been signed and the onboarding packet is returned, OHR will send an email to the new faculty with their MSU email and a 'Welcome to Morgan' handbook.

Twice a year, Academic Affairs holds an Adjunct Faculty Academy for all Adjunct Faculty.

All other onboarding is conducted by the hiring department.
