2024 Adele V. Holden Prize
The Department of English & Language Arts is honored to offer two awards each semester for outstanding creative writers attending Morgan State University. The Adele V. Holden Creative Writing Prizes are named in honor of Morgan alumna, educator, and author Adele V. Holden (1940) whose estate supports the endeavors of promising creative writing students at Morgan State University.
Submission Eligibility
The department awards two prizes:
The New Voices Award is presented to the two Morgan students who demonstrate an understanding of craft, distinctive literary vision and voice, and superior poetic or narrative ability. It is named in honor of Morgan alumna, educator, and author Adele V. Holden (1940) whose estate supports the endeavors of promising creative writing students at Morgan State University.
To Apply Submit:
- The entry form
- At least 25 pages of an original work (poetry, fiction, dramatic monologue, screenplay, play, creative nonfiction)
- A letter of support from a Morgan State University faculty member submitted to jacqueline.cozart@morgan.edu and use the subject line Adele V. Holden New Voices Award by February 12, 2024

- Typed and Double-spaced Manuscripts
- Entries must be submitted by February 12, 2024 to jacqueline.cozart@morgan.edu with the subject line Adele V. Holden New Voices Award

Holden (1940) whose estate supports the endeavors of promising creative writing students at Morgan State University.
