Mission, Vision & Values
VISION
The Honors Program within the School of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (SCMNS) fosters a learning community that aids in developing the talents and abilities of our most academically distinguished students to allow them to thrive and contribute to our global society.
MISSION
The program provides an extra level of challenge and encourages intellectual growth through 1) courses that enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to learn and think independently, 2) academic and social activities that assist in the development of leadership skills, and 3) community service projects that encourage an awareness of cultural differences and global issues.
VALUES
Critical thinking and inquiry. Honors students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and think critically by engaging in activities that stimulates scientific inquiry (on campus-research, internships, laboratory courses, senior thesis)
Active Citizenship and Service. Honors students are encouraged to engage in community service as a means of giving back to the community and fostering learning and a commitment to society issues.
Leadership. The SCMNS Honors Program encourages involvement in campus social and academic activities that allow them to develop their leadership skills.
