Summer Accounting Academy
A 4-Day Commuter Program in Accounting, July 8-11, 2024
Theme: The Pathway to Accounting Careers
The Summer Accounting Academy is a commuter summer program for high school juniors and seniors and community college students who are interested in accounting as a college major. The Academy will take place on July 8-11, 2024, Monday through Thursday. The program is free of charge, however, you will need transportation to and from the program each day.
Preference will be given to applicants with the highest GPA (GPA of 3.0 or better on 4.0 scale is preferable). SAT or ACT scores will be considered.
Most of the program activities will take place in the Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management which is in the triangular building located at 4200 Hillen Road.
The deadline to apply is May 15. 2024.
Topics and Activities (draft only, subject to change):
- Overview of the accounting profession and career areas
- Introduction to college accounting and ratio analysis
- The importance of Excel in accounting careers
- A panel of industry professionals will speak about their experiences in corporate accounting, public accounting and governmental accounting
- Field trip to a Big Four accounting firm
- Information on applying for college and obtaining financial aid
- Group case study presentation on use of financial ratios to evaluate business performance
- Games, door prizes and awards for participation, case study presentation, etc.
To Apply for the Program
- To apply for the program, please complete the application form below.
- You are required to upload a short essay.
- You are required to obtain one letter of recommendation. Contact information for your recommender must be entered on the application form.
- When completing the application form, you will be able to save your work and resume completion of the form later.
- To verify your GPA, please send an official transcript to us using U.S. mail, after you submit your application. The transcript should be sent to:
