About UndocuBear [Student Organization]

UndocuBear was founded in 2021 by Morelys Urbano, a junior multimedia journalism student at Morgan State University. The organization emerged from a need to address the unique challenges faced by undocumented students in higher education. The mission of UndocuBear is to uplift undocumented voices, advocate for increased resources and support, and fight for immigration reform. Through activism and community engagement, UndocuBear aims to make higher education more accessible and equitable for undocumented students in Maryland and become the Blueprint for other HBCUs.

The organization was created in response to the financial hardships, limited resources, and difficulties navigating the higher education system of Undocumented students. The group's advocacy has highlighted these issues, pushing for systemic changes to support undocumented students.

UndocuBear has been instrumental in organizing events and rallies to raise awareness about the difficulties of undocumented students. Notably, the organization led a march of over 150+ students to Washington, D.C., to demand immigration reform and emphasize that immigration is a critical issue for the Black community. This advocacy has brought significant attention to the needs of undocumented students at Morgan State and beyond.

Students interested in joining UndocuBear can get involved by attending meetings, participating in events, and volunteering for various initiatives. The organization also welcomes collaborations with other student groups and community organizations to strengthen its impact. UndocuBear continues to work towards improving the educational experience for undocumented students by advocating for more financial aid, legal resources, and supportive policies. The organization strives to make higher education inclusive for all students, regardless of their immigration status, and to ensure that their voices are heard and valued.
