Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship Program 2024 Interdisciplinary Training Summit
Baltimore, MD – Last week, Morgan State University (MSU) was abuzz with excitement and collaboration as it hosted a remarkable three-day Interdisciplinary Summit. Spearheaded by Dr. Linda Darrell, DSW Program Director, and the DSW and SSW Teams, the summit brought together American Psychological Association (APA) leaders and their Minority Fellows alongside MSU's DSW Student Immersion participants. The event marked a significant milestone in integrated practice among social workers, psychologists, and counselors.
The summit was a testament to the power of community, with a diverse assembly of DSW students from thirteen different states and APA Minority Fellows representing an impressive thirty-two states. This convergence of minds and expertise fostered a dynamic environment of learning, sharing, and growth, making everyone feel a part of something bigger.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a keen interest in returning to Morgan State University for future events. Participants highlighted several key aspects that contributed to the summit's success:
- Morgan's Beautiful Campus: Attendees were captivated by MSU's scenic and welcoming atmosphere, with many experiencing their first visit to a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campus.
- The joy of meeting peers and colleagues face-to-face for the first time added a personal touch to the professional development experience. This unique opportunity for networking and learning has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the attendees' professional growth.
- Integrated Practice Focus: This summit was the first to emphasize integrated practice among social workers, psychologists, and counselors, setting a precedent for future interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Baltimore City's Total Health Care Organization Visit: A full-day visit to this facility provided a stellar real-life integrated practice experience, showcasing the practical applications of theoretical knowledge.
- Outstanding Service: The excellent service at Helen Roberts Dining Hall and the Behavioral and Social Sciences Center enhanced the experience, providing all attendees with a welcoming and comfortable environment.
The success of this event is a testament to the spirit of teamwork and excellence that defines Morgan State University, often referred to as the National Treasure. The collaborative efforts of the DSW and SSW Team, alongside the enthusiastic participation of students and fellows, have set a high standard for future events. This success is a reflection of the strength and dedication of the entire MSU community.
