Hazardous Communication Program

PURPOSE

This program has been developed to provide guidance and direction for the dissemination of necessary and required information so employees and students will be aware of the hazards in the workplace/laboratories at Morgan State University, and the methods available to prevent or reduce exposure to the potential hazards they present.

The program complies with the requirements of OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), commonly known as the “Employee Right-To-Know” standard.

SCOPE

Under the requirements of this safety standard, all chemicals that are produced imported, or are otherwise used at Morgan State University are reviewed, and information relative to the hazards of these chemicals is communicated to all affected employees and students.

Employees and students engaged in the handling of hazardous chemicals have the right to know of, and to be informed by Morgan State University, as to the chemical and physical hazards that are inherent to their job duties.  They also have the right to be informed of the proper methods for protecting themselves from these hazards. Employees and students with questions concerning the use of the written Hazardous Communication Program (“HazCom”, or, “the Program”), or questions concerning the information contained within it, will have those questions answered by an EHS representative.
