Dr. Wells is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Morgan State University where she joined the faculty in 2008. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Wells completed the majority of her clinical training with the Department of Veterans Affairs including a pre-doctoral internship at Hines VA Hospital in Illinois. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Disparities with the W. K. Kellogg Health Scholars Program at Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University. Dr. Wells also earned a Post-Graduate Certificate in Academic Leadership from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and holds a Masters in Psychology from Wesleyan University, and a Bachelors degree in African American studies from Yale University.

Dr. Wells' background includes work in health disparities, mental health, specifically, PTSD, depression, and anxiety; correlates of STEM student success; and program evaluation. Her current research focuses on psychosocial factors associated with academic performance, and the impact of trauma and violence on health, well-being, and student learning. Her work has included a wealth of interdisciplinary collaborations. One of her aims is to continually engage with others across a variety of fields and settings to make research and information on mental health useful for communities and policy makers.

Dr. Wells is committed to educating others about the science and practice of psychology and its value in multidisciplinary endeavors. She enjoys serving as an academic and career mentor to students and a research advisor to both undergraduate and graduate students. She coordinated the Graduate Program in Psychometrics at Morgan for seven years. She worked to shepherd the then nascent program through its early development and the creation of programmatic policies and procedures.

Dr. Wells has published her work and has presented locally, nationally and internationally to both professional and lay audiences. She has received honors for her work including an NIH Health Disparities Grant, and has received recognition for her service to the profession including a Presidential Citation from Division One of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Wells is a gubernatorial appointee to the Maryland Behavioral Health Advisory Council on which she serves with others from a wide range of professions to promote policies and practices to enhance behavioral health service delivery across the state.
