Finding Strength in Uncertainty: A Call to Persevere and Stay Engaged
To the Morgan Community,
Today, we find ourselves navigating a moment of collective reflection. The results of yesterday’s election have brought about a range of emotions across our campus and our nation, including disappointment, confusion, and even uncertainty about the path forward. For many, this election was an opportunity to cast a vote for the very first time or to participate in the political process in ways that carried deep personal meaning and conviction. I want to acknowledge and commend each of you who engaged in this election season — who volunteered, advocated, and exercised your right to vote. Your voices are essential to shaping our nation and its future.
While the outcome may not reflect the choice many of you hoped for, I want to remind you that democracy, like life, is a journey. It is a process, not a single moment or decision. Sometimes, we experience outcomes that align with our hopes and values, while at other times, the results challenge us to dig deeper, recommit, and continue advocating for the change we wish to see. While this can be discouraging, it’s crucial that we don’t let it deter our determination. The impact of our civic engagement is cumulative, building over time and influenced by each voice, vote, and action we take.
Let me assure you: your engagement is needed now more than ever. Change is often slow, and progress may feel out of reach at times, but true progress endures because it is built on perseverance and resilience. I encourage you to lean on each other, continue learning, and share ideas on ways to strengthen our community and, ultimately, our country. We are in this together, and it is through our collective strength that we can forge a brighter future.
Morgan’s legacy has been defined by the boldness of its students and alumni and by how we have faced adversity and transformed it into opportunity. Let us continue to build on this legacy with resolve, commitment to each other, and the belief that, despite setbacks, tomorrow holds the promise of progress.
If you need support in processing your feelings around this election, please remember that we have resources available through our Counseling Center, Student Affairs, and other support services. You are not alone, and I encourage you to reach out and talk to those around you.
Together, we will rise, and we will continue our work — as a campus, as a community, and as individuals dedicated to making our nation and our world a more just, equitable, and hopeful place.
In solidarity and with unwavering support,
David K. Wilson
