STUDENT AWARD AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Eligible students are notified via e-mail by MHEC to create an online MDCAPS account to view their award offer(s). Students must accept their award(s), submit any requested documents, and confirm/update their housing status and the institution that they plan to attend. MHEC has provided the Office of Financial Aid with a listing of students who have been awarded and those who have accepted their state award(s) so that the funding can be applied to student's account which can be viewed in WEBSIS.
MHEC and the University may adjust or cancel your award(s) at any time during the year based on the receipt of updated information. Information that may impact your eligibility for state awards includes:
- Housing status - on campus, off-campus, or with parents (changes must be updated in MDCAPS)
- Enrollment status - full-time, half-time or less than half-time
- Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standing
- Verification status/outcome - changes to your FAFSA
It is the responsibility of the student to respond promptly to any and all requests for additional information from the Office of Financial Aid and MHEC. Students are required to update their MDCAPS account if and when their housing status changes. Failure to do so may result in the adjustment or cancellation of some or all of your state award(s).
ALERT! Upcoming changes that may impact your ability to renew your Educational Assistance (EA) Grant or Guaranteed Access (GA) Grant Programs beginning with the 2018-2019 award year.
CREDIT COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
If you received either the GA, EA, and/or CB-EAG for two years since the 2015-2016 academic year, you are required to successfully complete at least 30 credits during the 2018-2019 academic year in order to receive your full (non-prorated) renewal award for the 2019-2020 academic year and thereafter. If you successfully complete at least 24 credits but less than 30 credits at the end of the 2018-2019 academic year, your award will be prorated (reduced) in the 2019-2020 academic year. Credits earned in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer terms of an award year all count towards the 30 credit requirement.
