DIT's IT Maturity Journey – Assessing Strengths, Seizing Opportunities, and Building Strategies for Excellence
The Division of Information Technology (DIT) has recently conducted an internal organizational IT organization maturity assessment. This was a follow-up to an internal assessment conducted in 2018.
The assessment was conducted using a tool from Gartner, a leading research and advisory firm that provides insights and advice for IT, business, and legal industries. This tool gauged the IT maturity level of DIT, aligning it with national standards and best practices, and then benchmarked the results against those of similar organizations.
The assessment enabled us to evaluate our performance in key areas, pinpointing both strengths and areas for improvement throughout the Division. With the aim of exceeding national standards, DIT continues to refine strategies to achieve this goal.
The following core competency areas were assessed:
- Enterprise Applications
- Infrastructure & Operations
- Program & Portfolio Management
- Security & Risk Management
- Vendor and Portfolio Management
Below illustrates the assessment results and how we compared to peer organizations in both the 2018 and 2023 assessments.

Highlights:
- As seen in both the 2018 and 2023 assessment, DIT has either met or exceeded the listed benchmark in all competency areas.
- In all but one area, DIT has improved its overall score compared to the 2018 internal results
- Within each functional area there is a set of critical objectives and associated functional activities that have been broken down into a comprehensive list of steps to achieve each functional activity. DIT is currently reviewing and identifying strategies to ensure that we continue to make improvements across the division in these critical areas.
