Dr. Quibria is currently Professor of Economics at Morgan State University. Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Quibria worked at the Asian Development Bank, a premier global international development finance institution, based in Manila, and at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, for more than two decades. He held various senior positions, including Senior Advisor (ADBI), Director of research and analysis (ADB), and Advisor in operations and evaluations (ADB).

In addition, Dr. Quibria has held teaching and research positions with a number of academic institutions, including: University of Dhaka; Nuffield College, Oxford; Boston University, FASID-GRIPS graduate program in International Development, Tokyo; Singapore Management University, the premier private university in the country; Rutgers University ; UN-WIDER, Helsinki, Finland; and Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. He has also acted as advisor/consultant to various international organizations: Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and various agencies of the United Nations such as the ESCAP, FAO, ILO and UN-OHRLLS- on international trade and development issues. In addition, he has acted as advisor/consultant to the Government of Bangladesh, US AID, International Center for Transitional Justice, and DFID-Economic and Social Research Council, among others.He is also affiliated with a number of professional organizations, including: American Economic Association, American Committee on Asian Economic Studies ( board member), Bangladesh Policy Research Institute (as a non-resident Distinguished Fellow) and Bangladesh Economists' Forum.

Dr. Quibria is the recipient of a number of academic awards and fellowships, which include: two-time recipient of the Fulbright core awards (from Bangladesh to the US and from the US to Bangladesh); the Ford Foundation Graduate Fellowship (Princeton University); the Senior Commonwealth Academic Fellowship (Oxford University); UNU-WIDER Research Fellowship; and National Merit Scholarships (University of Dhaka). Dr. Quibria is listed in Marquis Who's Who in the World and similar biographical databases.

Research Interests: aid effectiveness; governance; international migration and remittances; economics of multiple shocks; poverty and inequality; and microcredit

Dr. Quibria's research concerns theory, policies and practices of international development and international economics. He has worked extensively on trade and development issues of Asian countries.Dr. Quibria has authored more than 100 research papers which have appeared in scholarly volumes and in leading scientific journals in economics and international development, including: Quarterly Journal of Economics, International Economic Review, Oxford Economic Papers, Journal of Development Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, World Development, Kyklos, World Economy, Bulletin of Economic Research, Journal of Economic Surveys, and Asian Development Review.

He is also the author/editor of a number of scholarly books , the most recent being:

Dr. Quibria has also served as the managing editor of the Asian Development Review (MIT Press), a scholarly journal on Asian economic development; and director and editor of Asian Development Outlook , the flagship annual economic review of the Bank's member countries. He is currently a member of the editorial board of a number of scholarly journals, including Journal of Asian Economics, Elsevier. He has acted as referee for some of the leading journals in economics and international development, including: American Economic Review; Quarterly Journal of Economics; International Economic Review; Economic Journal; Oxford Economic Papers; Journal of Development Economics; Canadian Journal of Economics; Economic Development and Cultural Change; Journal of Population Economics; Journal of Asian Economics; Journal Development Studies; World Development; Bulletin of Economic Research; Contemporary Economic Policy.

Dr. Quibria's research is widely acknowledged  in development and policy circles as well as in academia. His works on poverty, governance, aid effectiveness, ICT, international migration and East Asian Miracle are highly cited.

In addition to academic research, Dr. Quibria writes for the Financial Express in Bangladesh on the economic problems of the country. He has also contributed to numerous op-ed pages to national and international newspapers. His articles have appeared in Project Syndicate, Asiaweek, Far Eastern Economic Review and Baltimore Sun, among others.

Dr. Quibria has been widely interviewed by international media, including CNBC, Channel News Asia, CNN, BBC World Service, Bloomberg TV, Reuters TV, Deutsche Villa and Singapore Broadcasting Corporations. He has also been quoted on development issues by the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, Time Magazine, Far Eastern Economic Review and Asiaweek, in addition to many Asian regional and national newspapers and magazines.
