Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the State Engineering University of Armenia

Dr. Melkonyan has a Ph.D. in Economics, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the State Engineering University of Armenia. She has an extensive teaching experience. Prior to joining the Morgan State University, she has worked as a Professor of Economics at the Prince George's Community College and Professor of Economics, Management and Organization at the State Engineering University of Armenia.

Dr. Melkonyan has a very strong research record which includes three books and forty six publications. She has held visiting positions at Iowa State University, Grambling State University, and California State Polytechnic University (Pomona). Dr. Melkonyan is a regular participant and presenter at various international scientific conferences.

Dr. Melkonyan's main research interests are in the areas of Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, International Trade, Economics of Transition, and Economics and Organization of Production. She has a very strong track record of research and publishing. Her academic publications include three books, forty six publications in refereed journals, and three scientific-technical reports.

Most of Dr. Melkonyan's recent research is based on an incomplete contract view of the theory of the firm. Recently, Dr. Melkonyan has published a research paper on "Residual Control Rights, Transferable Returns, and their Implications for Ownership Structure" . The paper examines the consolidation problem in a model characterized by non-contractible, relationship specific investments and transferable and non-transferable payoffs.

Dr. Melkonyan has also worked on international trade and labor relations in transition economies, economic efficiency of various management systems, different mechanisms to improve productivity of the factors of production, and a number of other areas. Some of her research has an applied focus. For example, she has conducted a number of studies on organization and management of firms in heavy industries.
Dr. Melkonyan has collaborated with researchers from numerous institutions including Iowa State University, Grambling State University, California State Polytechnic University (Pomona), and a number of other institutions. Finally, she has presented her research findings at various prestigious international conferences and invited seminars.
