As the leader of an AI research team at Morgan State, Dr. Byrne focuses on the role of AI in higher education and the critical knowledge student affairs and education leaders need to effectively support students in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. She also serves as a principal investigator (PI) for the Trustworthy AI in Law & Society (TRAILS) Institute, which explores innovative uses of AI in learning environments. Funded by a $20 million award from the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the TRAILS institute is focused on transforming the practice of AI from one driven primarily by technological innovation to one that is driven by ethics, human rights, and input and feedback from communities whose voices have previously been marginalized.

Dr. Byrne’s work underscores Morgan State’s commitment to advancing education through cutting-edge research.
