Bio:

Dr. Khattak is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed by Transportation & Urban Infrastructure Studies and Center for Equitable AI & Machine Learning Systems. Previously, Dr. Khattak was a Systems Scientist with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and was also affiliated with Heinz College as a faculty. Prior to joining CMU, Dr. Khattak worked as an R&D Staff Scientist in Emerging Mobility Technologies at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Khattak’s research interests are at the interface of simulation and big data analytics for smart mobility systems. These include the operations and management, safety, energy, efficiency and cybersecurity assessment of connected and automated vehicles and intelligent transportation systems, integration of automation and electrification, shared use mobility, and human-technology interaction. His research leverages the applications of micro/meso-simulation, control theory, optimization, machine learning, and statistical modeling. His research has been sponsored by federal and state agencies including U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and Fujitsu Mobility. Dr. Khattak is member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
