Dr. Robin Butler is an Assistant (Tenure-Track) Faculty at Morgan State University's School of Community Health & Policy, Department of Public and Allied Health. With over 20 years of experience working with disinvested communities, Dr. Butler is committed to creating a culture of inclusivity among students and community stakeholders. Her research focuses on health informatics and literacy interventions in distressed communities using community-based participatory research. She was awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH): ASCEND Health-Related Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Small Grants Program and the Office of Academic Affairs - Transform Morgan Grant. Both awards were funded to support the development of an effective intervention to assist the student barbers’ role in significantly improving sustainable health literacy messages and activities for distressed community members. Dr. Butler is also a Brown University, School of Public Health Sentio Scholar for the Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research Training Institute, which supports the instrument design process for her current “barbershop health literacy project”. Dr. Butler has collaborated on the NIH CEAL2 project addressing COVID-19 disparities and has published research on COVID-19 information trust across diverse communities.
Dr. Butler is an appointed Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) member from the Office of the President. From this appointment, she enthusiastically serves as a member of the AI and Pedagogy Committee and as Chair of the AI and Community Engagement subcommittee to advance equitable practices in AI education and spearhead a trustworthy community of AI/ML practice.
