Mian B Hossain is a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Public and Allied Health (PAH) in the School of Community Health and Policy (SCHP). He is a Biostatistician by training and a social and behavioral scientist by experience. After receiving his PhD in Social Statistics from England, he started his present career at Morgan State University as a faculty. In addition to teaching biostatistics courses, he does research on issues related to food, nutrition, physical activities, HIV/AIDS, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, infant-child mortality, depression and sexual violence, etc. He has been analyzing large-scale complex survey data such as, NSFG, Add Health, NHANES, NHIS, NSDUH, BRFSS, NYTS, GSS, etc.
He has conducted several Biostatistical and analytical training Workshops in Nigeria and Zambia. These Workshops were organized by PEPFAR of the University of Maryland and attended by the scientific staff of PEPFAR staff based in Nigeria and Zambia. He conducted a longitudinal data analytical workshop in Ghana organized by INDEPTH network.
He is currently a Core leader of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics unit of the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI), NIH funded grant at Morgan State University. In January 2022, he also conducted a week-long Workshop on STATA and Biostatistics Sponsored by Biostatistics and Bioinformatic Unit of the RCMI, Morgan State University. He is a Core Leader, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Support Unit (BBSU) of RCMI (03/01/2024 – 02/28/2029). He is the PI of an ongoing HRSA grant (02/01/2023 – 03/31/2025) for performing Secondary Data analysis on Maternal and Child Health.
