The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design is a comprehensive degree that prepares students for careers in the design field. The program of study consists of courses that integrate theory and research-based knowledge with technical skills to ensure excellence in professional practice. The purpose of the program aligns with Morgan State University’s mission to serve ‘the community, region, state, nation, and world as an intellectual and creative resource by supporting, empowering, and preparing high-quality, diverse graduates to lead the world.’
Its Educational Goals include a combination of robust liberal arts education plus a comprehensive interior design curriculum that supports our professional-level Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program. The emphasis on creativity, effective verbal and graphic communication skills, and technical proficiency supports students’ development of critical thinking. It particularly addresses Morgan State’s Strategic Goals to enhance student success and engage with the community by academically preparing students to become certified interior designers so they contribute to enhancing the well-being, safety and health of our communities.
The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design degree program produces graduates who make a positive environmental and social impact on our urban built environment. Graduates are well prepared to enter the workplace with a skill set that allows them to thrive professionally and work collaboratively in both the commercial and residential sectors of the profession.
The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design degree granted by Morgan State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ). For more information, visit the NCIDQ Exams Eligibility.
Morgan State Interior Design Undergraduate Student Achievements
It typically takes a full-time student four years to complete the degree program while taking approximately 15 credits per semester. It typically takes a full-time transfer taking approximately 15 credits per semester two years to complete the degree program.

Student Attrition and Retention
- 100% of students admitted as interior design majors in the fall of 2021 returned in the fall of 2022, putting attrition at 0%.
- 100% of students admitted as interior design majors in the fall of 2022 returned in the fall of 2023, putting attrition at 0%
- 100% of students admitted as interior design majors in the fall of 2023 returned in the fall of 2024, putting attrition at 0%.
Graduation Rates
- Of the interior design students graduating in 2022, 40% graduated in 4 years, 60% graduated in 5 or more years. Note that the 60% were all change-of-majors who restarted the interior design curriculum in 2018 when the degree program was established, thus extending their academic careers.
- Of the interior design transfer students graduating in 2022, 100% graduated in 2 years.
- Of the interior design students graduating in 2023, 100% graduated in 4 years.
- Of the interior design transfer students graduating in 2023, 50% graduated in 2 years, 50% graduated in 3 years.
