The Office of Residence Life & Housing
Incoming Freshmen Housing
Welcome, Class of 2029! We are excited you have chosen the National Treasure: Morgan State University. Please utilize the following information as a guide in navigating the Freshman Housing Process. If you have any questions after reviewing this information, please email us at reslife@morgan.edu.
FRESHMAN HOUSING OPTIONS:
Step #1: How To Apply
- Go to www.morgan.edu/reslife.
- Click on "Access the Student Housing Portal" located on the right column under the blue "Additional Resources" section.
- Log in to the student housing portal using your University username and password. Remember that your username is all lowercase ending after the number in your address. Your password is the same password used for your email.
- Please select your respective application link (Freshmen). If you receive an error message, please contact our office at reslife@morgan.edu.
- While completing your housing application:
- You will select four (4) different building preferences. Please note that these preference selections will be used as a guide should you not participate in the “Self-Selection” process
- Complete roommate compatibility information (Note: This is a system-generated compatibility survey for general assignment purposes). This is not a roommate selection process.
- The University does not offer roommate selection. However, you can best achieve a preferred roommate by coordinating the timing of your application submission and participation in the “Self-Selection “process
- Pay your $200 non-refundable application fee
- Students residing in on-campus housing are required to have minimally the Silver Anytime Dining Plan.
- Remember, your application has not been submitted until you have clicked on the big red finish button at the end of the application. You will not be able to change meal plans (if applicable) or be assigned housing without completing this step.
-
Students will be notified via their Morgan State University email account only when it is their turn to access the system and make their housing assignment request.
-
Please be advised that you will not receive notification of your check-in day and time if you are not full-time (12-credits) registered and have made satisfactory financial arrangements with the Office of the Bursar.
Step #2: Residential Self-Selection Process
The Self-Selection process is a provision for providing a fair and efficient way for students to make a housing assignment request. The process starts with the completion and submission of a housing application, following all guidelines. Housing assignments are based on the date and time an application is submitted, ensuring a fair opportunity for all students. It is the purpose of the Office of Residence Life & Housing (ORL&H) to make student housing assignments via a fair and equitable process. To ensure a smooth experience, please be sure to read the steps in the process and review the video for detailed instructions:
Self-Selection Process
- Self-selection will start on March 15, 2025.
- The process is based on the date a student submits their application.
- Each submitted application is numbered and processed for self-selection based on the date and time stamp when the completed application is received.
- A determined number of applications, based on the date received, will be processed for self-selection.
Notification & Selection Window
- Students will be notified via their Morgan State University email account only when it is their turn to access the system and make their housing assignment request.
- Students will have 48 hours from the date their self-selection notification was emailed to them to access the system and select their housing assignment.
- It is critical to immediately access the system when notified to ensure timely selection.
Missed Self-Selection Window
- If a student misses their self-selection window, their preferences will be used to make the best assignment possible, if available.
Housing Accommodations
- Approved housing accommodations will be assigned based on the approved accommodation by the Office of Student Disabilities Support Services (SDSS).
- SDSS-approved assignments will be made by the assignments office.
Important Considerations
- The later you submit your application, the lower your chances of receiving your preferred housing assignment.
- Housing is not guaranteed and is considered a privilege.
- ORL&H will make every effort, by the established process, to provide you with your selected assignment.
Check-In Notification
Notification of your check-in day and time will be sent to your Morgan State University email account. Please see the important dates calendar for check-in dates for Fall 2025.
Step #3: Check-In Process
Welcome To Your New Home
We are excited to welcome you to campus! Your student check-in day and time will be provided via your Morgan State email only, so please check your inbox regularly.
We use a process to quickly and efficiently move our students into their new homes. Our Cruise Ship style check-in process is designed to limit parent and student efforts as much as possible so you and your family can enjoy this moment. The move-in process is the same for each of our on-campus residential facilities. The only difference in this process is how you will access your residence hall. We will provide specific instructions on how to access each residence hall.
Please review the instructions and video provided as an example of how the process works for on-campus housing. You will receive the same instructions and video related to your assigned residential facility to guide you through the check-in experience.
- Enter Campus via East Cold Spring Lane and Stadium Way
- A Morgan State University team member will direct you to the unloading zone for Baldwin Hall & Cummings House.
- Unload Your Vehicle
- Upon arrival, the move-in crew will unload your vehicle.
- The driver must remain in the car during this process.
- Parking and Shuttle Transport
- Once unloading is complete, the driver will exit campus the same way they entered and make a left onto East Cold Spring Lane.
- At the light, turn left onto Hillen Road, then another left at the next light onto Argonne Drive.
- At the four-way intersection following the light at the Murphy Fine Arts Center, make a left onto Stadium Way where the parking garage is located.
- Shuttles will be waiting to transport drivers back to Baldwin Hall & Cummings House.
