Morgan State University students Maya Purnell and Kojo Yeboah, both 2019 PEARL summer interns, recently attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) held in Anaheim, California. They presented their research "Identifying Low salinity Eastern Oysters (Crassostrea virginica) to Develop a Superior Oyster Line" and "Identification of Osmoregulatory Candidate Genes Responding to Low Salinity in Eastern Oysters" at the conference. Both students are supported by the MSU ASCEND program,

ABRCMS is one of the largest communities of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The conference was held from November 13-16, 2019, with more than 2,500 students from over 350 colleges and universities participating.

"We had so many nice conversations with other presenters and the audience. We were happy to introduce our research to them. This meeting helped us enhance our professional skills and expand our network, it was a wonderful experience!" said Maya Purnell. "It was a great experience and helped me and my partner grow in regard to our research and passion for science!" said Kojo Yeboah.
