Maryland Daily Record Names Morgan President David K. Wilson 2024 Most Admired CEO and Maryland Higher Ed Power Player
Inclusion on the Annual Lists Recognizes Exemplary Individual Leadership, Vision, Influence and Significant Contribution to Maryland’s Higher Education
BALTIMORE — Adding to an already impressive accumulation of accolades and honors, the Maryland Daily Record has named Morgan State University President David K. Wilson as a 2024 Most Admired CEO. In addition, the publication has also named Wilson one of Maryland’s power players on the 2024 Higher Education Power List.
The Most Admired CEOs recognition honors talented business executives, higher education leaders and nonprofit executive directors throughout Maryland, whose leadership and vision are admired by those around them. A panel of judges selects winners based on professional accomplishments, community service and letters of reference submitted by coworkers, fellow board members and community leaders. The Higher Education Power List is selected by The Daily Record’s editorial leadership team with input from members of the community. It comprises the most significant, influential and respected people in higher education in Maryland.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to be recognized as one of Maryland Daily Record’s 2024 Most Admired CEOs and to be named to the Maryland Higher Education Power List. These accolades are not just a reflection of how my leadership is perceived. It also mirrors the collective efforts of the dedicated, talented staff at Morgan, who work tirelessly every day to advance our mission,” said President Wilson. “It has been my experience that leaders who only embrace their own individual competencies — without regard to the competencies of others — will struggle in a dynamic work environment where teamwork is critical in addressing vexing challenges. I am fortunate to lead such a dynamic institution and to be surrounded by individuals whose commitment to excellence makes it possible for us to continue shaping the future of higher education in Maryland and beyond.”
This is not the first time The Daily Record has recognized and/or honored Morgan’s president. For three consecutive years, from 2021 to 2023, Wilson was named to the Maryland Power 100 List, and for four other years (2018, 2016, 2014 and 2011), he received the Influential Marylander Award. In 2020, he was named an ICON Honoree. The Daily Record’s ICON Honors recognize Maryland business leaders over the age of 60 for their notable success and demonstration of strong leadership both within and outside of their chosen field.
President Wilson, who was nationally recognized in 2023 as a Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education winner, is the nation’s longest-serving president of an Historically Black College or University (HBCU). For more than a decade, President Wilson has not only been a transformative president at Morgan but has emerged as a leader among university presidents nationwide and as an effective advocate for HBCUs in their role in developing leaders and serving the needs of their community, state and nation. Wilson has a long record of accomplishment , particularly at Morgan, in his more than 30 years in higher education administration.
The Maryland Daily Record will recognize Wilson, one of three 2024 honorees in the higher education category, during a special ceremony at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport in November.
