Alleged Homecoming Shooter Arrested
Dear Morgan Community:
Today, the Baltimore Police Department announced that an arrest has been made in the investigation involving the shooting of a Morgan student that occurred at the conclusion of an otherwise peaceful and celebratory Homecoming on October 23. Since the occurrence of that tragic incident, the capture of the perpetrator behind the crime has been a top priority for both our University and the Baltimore Police Department.
This past Wednesday night, with the assistance of our Morgan State University Police, Baltimore City Police apprehended a suspect for his alleged connection to the shooting. The individual in custody is currently being held without bail and is no longer a threat to our community.
We appreciate the diligent investigative work of the Morgan State University Police, working in collaboration with the Baltimore Police Department, to solve this crime. We also appreciate the courage of those who came forward to assist in this investigation by supplying key information leading to the arrest of the suspected assailant.
While we take comfort in knowing that a suspect has been captured, our concerns are still heightened as to the cause of this incident and its escalation to an extremely violent act. Please know that violence of any kind is never accepted and will not be tolerated on our campus. The safety of our community is paramount. We will continue to evaluate and make the necessary improvements to enhance many of the safety measures that we have in place at Morgan to protect our campus.
Kind regards,
President Wilson
