Anthony Johnson

Laboratory Technician, Mechatronics Engineering

anthony.johnson@morgan.edu

Anthony Johnson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics, and a Professional Science Master’s (PSM) degrees in Applied Physics. His primary, secondary, and tertiary education was done in the Caribbean; being born there. And his undergraduate and graduate education was at Morgan State University and Towson University respectively; both located in Maryland. His graduate degree involved the study of the use of Atomic Force Microscopy in Nanolithography on the perovskite manganite, Lanthanum Barium Manganese Oxide (LBMO), which has potential applications involving room temperature nanoscale spintronic devices, as well as the study of the use of Raman Spectroscopy in probing the nature of defects in Graphene.

At one point in his life, he was an A+ certified Computer Technician at a top company in Trinidad, a career he rather enjoyed, but left that position after having obtained a near full scholarship to study at Morgan State.

His name and contribution in experimental physics research can be found in past publication such as the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, Journal of American Ceramic Society, Advanced Functional Materials, as well as some others. Those research being based on various results involving non-equilibrium magnetic thin films. He is also a member of the physics honor society Sigma Pi Sigma. Having worked in physics also gave him the knowledge and experience with the use of such advance equipment such as Magnetometers, Pulse Laser Deposition systems, Atomic Force Microscopes, Sputtering systems, etc.

He has some depth of experience in the use of CAD software to prototype devices and machines, and his favorite computer programming languages are LabviewTM, Lisp and C. He has been teaching for more than 15 years now, part time & full time, in physics, math, and engineering, at various schools and university, such as Morgan State, Johns Hopkins, and Towson University. Though his background has been in electronics, computers, and physics research, he has always had a love of engineering as well; with future interest being in System Engineering & Materials Engineering.

Anthony is currently an instructor, lab technician and lab manager for the fledgling Mechatronics Engineering program at Morgan State. Previously he was also an Instructor and Lab Manager for the physics department at Morgan. Currently he is aiding in the improvement of existing Mechatronics Labs for undergraduates. These however are early steps, and is a work in progress towards exceptional Goals.

In his free time, Anthony tries to prioritize time with his two young daughters, enjoys jogging, and working on his home and vehicle when he can; as well as just learning in general.
