ON TARGET FOR 2025
Lumina Grant
CLOSING THE DEGREE ATTAINMENT GAP BY 2025
Morgan State University is a longtime leader in student achievement. We foster a globally competitive workforce by improving educational outcomes for historically underserved students. Now, thanks to a generous grant from Lumina Foundation, Morgan is embarking on the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Student Success Project, a three-year, $1.5-million joint initiative of Morgan State University, Howard University and Dillard University. The project works to close degree attainment gaps between groups and enhance academic achievement, particularly for those who are Pell Grant-eligible. The HBCU Student Success Project aligns with our “50 by 25” campaign, a University-wide effort to increase Morgan’s graduation rate to 50 percent by 2025.
SSC–Campus enables targeted interventions to reduce the achievement gap between Pell and non-Pell students. Pell Grant recipients’ six-year graduation rate, at 29 percent, is 4 percent lower than the University-wide rate of 33 percent.
THE LUMINA HBCU STUDENT SUCCESS PROJECT BLUEPRINT
- Student Success Collaborative: Mining data for improved decision-making and achieving better student outcomes
- The Second-Year Experience: Providing momentum at a crucial academic milestone, boosting student engagement and improving completion rates
Morgan’s 50 by 25 campaign is aligned with Lumina’s Goal 2025 to increase the percentage of Americans holding high-quality postsecondary credentials to 60 percent by 2025.
