Dr. Yucheng Lan obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in solid-state physics from Jilin University, and Ph. D degree in experimental condensed physics from the Institute of Physics, the Chinese Academy of Science, in China.  Prior to joining Morgan State University, he had worked at the University of Houston, Boston College, Michigan State University, Temple University, and the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science.  He was a visiting professor of Physics at Delaware State University and ORAU Fellow at US Army Research Laboratory.

Dr. Lan is the PI/co-PI of federal/company/university projects, author of 150+ peer-reviewed scientific papers with an h-index of 46 (i10-index of 100) and citation of 17,000+ times.  He is also the author of one book and 12 book chapters, editor of two books, guest-editor of two peer-reviewed journals, and inventor of 10+ patents.  He is the task Chair of The International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD).

His researches have been focused on structural materials and devices of 1) renewable clean energy (thermoelectrics, photovoltaics, photo-/electro-catalytics), 2) sensing, and 3) structural characterization (X-ray diffraction and electron microscopies).  The researches have been financially sponsored by the Natural Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, national laboratories, companies, and universities.
