CICS Featured on the American Council on Education Website
The College of Interdisciplinary & Continuing Studies (CICS) at Morgan State University has been highlighted in a feature article on the American Council on Education (ACE) website for its impact on adult learners returning to complete their degrees. The article, titled "Morgan State University Helps Returning Learners Complete Their Degrees," showcases how CICS is breaking barriers and providing flexible, accessible, and career-focused education through the Morgan Completes You initiative.
With nearly 42 million Americans having attended college without completing a degree, Morgan is committed to ensuring that higher education remains accessible for adult learners. Launched in 2022, CICS was designed specifically for returning students—not as an adaptation of traditional programs, but as a tailored approach to meet their unique needs. Offering 18 degree programs (eight bachelor’s, five master’s, and five PhD programs), CICS continues to grow, with enrollment reaching 162 students in Fall 2024 and a goal of 350 students by Fall 2025.
What Makes CICS Unique?
- Flexible Course Options – Online, in-person, evening, and weekend classes.
- Affordable Tuition – Free application and in-state tuition for all students, regardless of residency.
- Generous Transfer Credits – Acceptance of up to 90 credits toward a bachelor’s degree and credit for work experience.
- Dedicated Advising – Personalized academic guidance to ensure continuous support.
- Interdisciplinary Programs – Degrees that align with industry needs and equip students with broad, adaptable skills.
Dr. David K. Wilson, President of Morgan State University, emphasizes the university’s commitment to accessibility:
“Ensuring the doors of higher education are opened as wide as possible to as many as possible is more than a commitment; it is the bedrock of who we are as an institution.”
The article also highlights students like Michael Brice, who balances his studies in Interdisciplinary Technology Services while running a business and serving as a full-time pastor. Brice credits CICS for providing the flexibility he needs to advance his education without disrupting his personal and professional life.
With its student-centered approach, career-aligned programs, and commitment to lifelong learning, CICS continues to reshape what degree completion looks like for adult learners.
