Shamara P. Collins, PhD is a Research Engineer at Morgan State University supplying support to the newly formed Climate Science Division. Dr. Collins’ subject matter expertise includes renewable energy and the solar power ecosystem, ranging from policy to technologies. She earned her engineering doctoral degree from the University of South Florida with a concentration in CdTe thin films. She has taken a trans-disciplinary approach to comprehensively address our adaptation needs for climate change. Examples of her scholarship include earning the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office’s Science, Technology, and Policy Fellowship, the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship, and the National Institutes of Health’s Minority Biomedical Research Support-Research Initiative for Student Enhancement award. Most recently she was Solar Technical Advisor on an international research collaboration to explore technology in different climate zones with the vision of their use in Space.  Other noteworthy projects include management of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory administered Solar District Cup competition and co-design of the DOE’s National Community Solar Partnership. Demonstrations of her passion for community involvement and stakeholder engagement includes securing a Fellowship (2019 Washington, DC Cohort) with the Clean Energy Leadership Institute, along with contributing to engineering education organizations.  Her professional goal is to popularize solar electricity with the understanding that energy equity is intrinsic, to ensure Power (is distributed) to the People.
