CEAMLS, fueled by a substantial USD $9 million grant from the U.S. Department of the Navy’s Office of Naval Research, focuses on combating algorithmic bias—a pervasive issue in AI development. Led by Director Kofi Nyarko, CEAMLS endeavors to rectify biases embedded in AI algorithms that inadvertently discriminate against certain groups. Through innovative research projects, such as developing fairness models and constructing an ethical framework, CEAMLS strives to ensure equitable access to AI technologies while mitigating potential societal biases.

In light of recent executive orders aimed at regulating AI development, MSU's centers are poised to make significant contributions toward enhancing the safety, fairness, and accountability of AI technologies. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, MSU is committed to shaping a future where AI and cybersecurity serve the interests of all stakeholders while upholding principles of equity and integrity.
