ASCEND Scholars
Requirements and Benefits
Program Requirements
ASCEND Scholars must be willing to commit up to two years of funded mentoring, career development, and research training. Scholars must also do the following:
- Commit to active involvement in a research project for a minimum of 10 hours/week during the academic year.
- Complete and provide regular updates of an Individual Development Plan to assist with academic/career planning.
- Participate in an external summer research training experience during the summer.
- Complete additional credit hours for the ASCEND program courses.
- Participate in various workshops such as ethics.
- Participate in graduate school preparation workshops.
- Attend a minimum of two professional conferences to enhance networking skills.
- Submit graduate school applications to a minimum of 6 PhD and/or MD/PhD programs in the fall of senior year.
- Participate in all required evaluation activities.
Program Benefits
ASCEND Scholar benefits include (but are not limited to):
- Two-year paid traineeship (i.e., partial tuition, monthly stipends, and travel funds).
- Development of Individual Development Plan.
- Training in quantitative and quantitative methods.
- Presentation of Scholar's own research at undergraduate and professional conferences.
