Mathematics and Science Education Graduate Programs

Welcome to the Graduate Programs in Mathematics and Science Education

The Graduate Programs in Mathematics and Science Education (GPMSE) prepare individuals for careers throughout the education landscape.

The GPMSE offers six programs, all of which are High Residency. Most courses are offered in-person on weekday evenings.

  1. The Doctor of Education (EdD) degree prepares scholar-practitioners to bring a research lens to their work in mathematics or science education.
  2. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree prepares future faculty and researchers for positions in higher education.
  3. The Master’s of Science (MS) degrees prepare students who want to continue their studies at the doctoral level either in the EdD or the PhD programs.

Graduates of our programs:

  • Effect positive changes in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science at all levels.
  • Develop a sensitivity to the characteristics of urban environments and institutions, and the implications of these for the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in these settings.
  • Add to the body of knowledge about the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in urban settings, and use their skills, competencies, and attitudes to provide instructional leadership in mathematics and science education.
