Resources for LGBTQ Students

The Counseling Center provides LGBT-affirming individual and couples counseling as part of its services to Morgan students.

Morgan State University Counseling Center services are affirming for students with all sexual orientations and gender identities. Our staff is committed to helping students navigate the challenges of exploring their identities, coming out, and integrated sexuality and gender identity and expression into their lives.

Campus Resources

Morgan State University LGBTQ Advisory Board, appointed by President David Wilson, is composed of faculty, staff, and students.  Its mission is to increase the resources and services to the LGBTQ community on campus and create a safe and welcoming environment for all students. S.O.U.L. (Students Open to Unique Love, formerly Rainbow Soul) Morgan State University's gay-straight alliance meets weekly, evenings in the University Student Center.

Women's and Gender Studies Program (WGST) offers an academic minor with courses on sexuality and gender, and holds seminars, discussions and events each semester.

• The Pride Center of Maryland: The Pride Center of Maryland seeks to achieve equality, understanding, and respect for the diversity of the greater Baltimore GLBT community while also providing quality support services, facilities, and professional resources for the development and well-being of individuals and groups.
• Chase Brexton Community Health Center: The Chase Brexton Community Health Center is committed to delivering accessible health care throughout the lifespan, providing health care for the LGBT community, and ensuring that all patients, regardless of age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, have access to high quality health care.
• The Center for Transgender Health at Johns Hopkins Medicine offers person-centered, affirming, and comprehensive health and mental health services. Please also check out their resource guide. 
• B'More Proud Queer College Coalition: The B'MORE PROUD Queer College Coalition is the primary intercollegiate network and clearinghouse serving college & university students/faculty/staff in the Baltimore-Metro LGBTQIA community. We seek to promote personal and professional growth of this community through leadership development, academic scholarship, educational programming, and social networking opportunities. Bmore Proud sponsors an annual LGBTQ Leadership Summit each spring at one of the participating campuses. Morgan State University is a member institution of this coalition and supports the annual Leadership Summit.
• Equality Maryland/Free State Legal lobbies in Annapolis and across the state to create equal protection under the law for LGBT Marylanders and their families.
• Hearts and Ears: Hearts & Ears, Inc. is a non-profit organization for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning individuals with mental health issues and concerns. Drop-in center and provides weekly support groups that address addictions, mental health, and general concerns
• LGBTQ affirming religious groups in Baltimore:  Unity Fellowship Church: www.ufcb.org, is a primarily African American, LGBTQ affirming Christian congregation in Baltimore; and The Open Church, www.theopenchurchmd.org.

• Campus Pride publishes an index rating the LGBTQ-friendliness of colleges and universities and sponsors LGBTQ-affirming college fairs, educational events, and a summer leadership camp for LGBTQ college students and their allies.

• PFLAG (Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays) PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, and their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

  The Trevor operates the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. The Trevor Project also provides guidance and vital resources to parents and educators in order to foster safe, accepting and inclusive environments for all youth, at home and at school.

• GLBT National Help Center - The GLBT National Help Center provides confidential telephone and internet peer counseling.
• GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) Network: Gay-Straight Alliance Network is a youth leadership organization that connects school-based Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) to each other and community resources through peer support, leadership development, and training. The network supports young people in starting, strengthening, and sustaining GSAs and builds the capacity of GSAs
• National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF): The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, established in 1973, works to build the political power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and building the organizational capacity of the movement. As part of a broader social justice movement, the NGLTF works to create a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and creates opportunity for all.

• Lambda Legal: Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.
• Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN): The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network strive to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
• National Black Justice Coalition is a civil rights organization dedicated to empowering Black LGBTQ people.
• Soulforce: Soulforce, guided by the spirit of truth and empowered by the principles of relentless nonviolent resistance, works to end the religious and political oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning people
• National Center for Transgender Equality: The National Center for Transgender Equality is a national social justice organization devoted to ending discrimination and violence against transgender people through education and advocacy on national issues of importance to transgender people.
