Remembering Helena Hicks, Morgan Alumna and Civil Rights Advocate Who Helped Desegregate Read’s Lunch Counter
Helena Hicks, a civil rights advocate who led a 1950s protest to desegregate the old Read’s drug store lunch counter, passed away due to complications related to pneumonia. She was 88 and lived in Northwest Baltimore.
