Biography

Michelle L Rockward completed her Bachelor's degree in mathematics from South Carolina State University in 1989. She continued her education with some graduate studies at University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA.She completed her Master's degree in applied mathematics from Clark Atlanta University in 1994.

After completing her master's, she continued teaching at Clark Atlanta for two years. She was later hired to teach at Morehouse College in their mathematics department and continued teaching there for ten years. Her most recent employment, for the last 10 years, has been at Perimeter College at Georgia State University. She served as assistant chairperson, during the 2017-2018 academic year, in the Mathematics Computer Science and Engineering department on the Clarkston campus of Georgia State University's Perimeter College. She was recently promoted to assistant professor, as well.

Her focus has been teaching entry-level students: foundations mathematics, Quantitative Skills and Reasoning (Finite Math), College Algebra and Pre-calculus. She also teaches these classes online. She has been teaching a split load (online and face to face) for the past 4 years. She continues to pedagogical and technological strategies to better reach students in the online environment. She served as the coordinator for the online Quantitative Skills and Reasoning and the Support for Quantitative Skills and Reasoning courses, which required her to update and edit the department's templates for these courses. In addition, MyLabMath templates were created.

Mrs. Rockward attends conferences and serves on committees. She is a member of AMATYC and GMATYC. She recently attended the 2017 AMATYC Conference in San Diego and Perimeter at Georgia State University’s Math Conference 2018. She serves as a member of the math conference committee.
