The School of Comunity Health and Policy (SCHP) received a $10,000 check from the Mechanic Foundation. This gift comes as result of the efforts of one of our alum, Dr. James C. Shay.

The gift will help support the B'More Lead Free project initiated by Dr. Anita Hawkins through a relationship with EPA and now being lead by Dr. Lawrence Brown and students.

Jacqueline Watkins, MSPH, a third year student in the Doctor of Public Health Program at Morgan State University, has been selected as an American Public Health Association (APHA) Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Section Fellow for 2015-2016.
This fellowship program provides students an opportunity to enrich their professional experience by participating in education and policy development at the national level. Student fellows will learn more about APHA and the MCH Section by participating in APHA business meetings, serving on various section committees, and working on section policy statements, among other activities. Student fellows will also be matched with a public health mentor who is a leader in the field of maternal child health.
Jacqueline is currently completing her dissertation research entitled "Preconception Health and Adverse Infant Outcomes among African American women". The intended findings may allow the development of interventions designed to reduce chronic disease experienced during preconception among African American women to be tailored to those with socio-economic indicators considered at risk for adverse infant outcomes.
Jacqueline will attend a fellows' orientation and present scientific findings for abstracts listed below at the 143rd APHA Annual Meeting held in Chicago, October 31st through November 4th, 2015.
