Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Morgan State University, a Carnegie-classified Doctoral/Research University (DRU) in northeast Baltimore, invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the newly defined position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Morgan, the State of Maryland's public urban university, approaches its sesquicentennial with an expanded mission that reaches from the state to the farthest corners of the globe.  To carry out that mission, the University seeks an energetic, visionary, and transformational leader in its first Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (PSVPAA).

As the chief academic officer reporting directly to the President, the PSVPAA will be second at overall authority in the University. In that role, the PSVPAA will be tasked with positioning Morgan at the forefront of issues and trends in the national higher education landscape, drawing on both its historic mission and its strength as a leading urban center for transdisciplinary research. The PSVPAA will work with the faculty through academic Deans to support and advance cutting-edge programs - including teaching, scholarship and community service and engagement - all designed to advance an urban research agenda.   

Founded in 1867, Morgan State University, known for its excellence in teaching, research, public service and community engagement, is one of four public doctoral research institutions in Maryland.  It awards the largest number of bachelor's degrees to African Americans in the State of Maryland; and it has received more Fulbright Scholarships than any other HBCU in the nation.Major requirements of the PSVPAA position are substantial administrative experience, especially with institutions undergoing dynamic change; a deep understanding of the research enterprise as evidenced by a strong record of scholarly activities and collaborative undertakings; and an ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
