Department:  School of Global Journalism and Communication

  

Duties:   Provides administrative and clerical support to the Office of Student Media; responds to inquiries from the public; creates and revises files to meet current needs; screens telephone calls and visitors; orders supplies and maintains inventory; schedules and coordinates meetings and appointments; assembles various materials; makes travel arrangements and keeps records of travel itineraries; prepares and submits travel and expense reports; prepares correspondence, charts, spreadsheets and other materials from copy created by others; proofreads correspondence; screens and distributes mail; gathers and consolidates data for reports; ensures confidentially of information; uses automated equipment such as facsimile machines, personal and networked computers, printers, copy equipment, voice messaging, electronic mail systems, and telephone equipment; performs other duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:  High School Diploma or GED.  Two (2) years of office experience providing administrative support, including the production of documents using automated equipment and software applications.  Demonstrated ability to type at least 45 wpm.

Note:  Applicants may be required to complete the institution's required skills assessment to be considered.  Some positions require specific skills such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, email, calendaring software, and internet proficiency.

Requirements:     Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment; knowledge of business English; knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite; skill in operating manual and automated office equipment; skill in maintaining clerical records; ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain a professional demeanor; ability to interact with the public, employees, and students in a courteous and efficient manner; ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments with only general instructions; ability to communicate effectively.
