Department:     Physical Plant Department


Duties:   Performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repair assignments, e.g., changes filters, light bulbs and lubricates equipment, in buildings and on external fixtures;  responds to all related repair requests and troubleshooting problems; assists in inspecting mechanical and structural components; ensures the operational readiness of safety related equipment; determines the required repairs;  assists in operating and maintaining tools and equipment; assists in preparation of estimation of time and materials required on assigned tasks;  determines the need for any additional repairs; cleans work areas upon completion of assignments; completes routine reports, updating logs, charts, and service manuals; removes snow and ice from assigned areas, with the proper use of equipment; spreads salt, sand and/or other solvents to prevent slipping; performs other duties as required.

Note:   The employee is considered “Essential Personnel.”

Minimum Qualifications:   One year of related work experience.

Preference:  High school Diploma or GED.

Requirements:  Knowledge of building construction, maintenance and repair practices; knowledge of basic tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work; knowledge of related safety practices and procedures; ability to communicate effectively; ability to complete logs and forms; ability to make simple adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment; ability to work around fixed equipment or machinery; ability to work at heights up to 35 ft.; ability to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; ability to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; ability to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions; ability to work in personal protective equipment.
