DepartmentPhysical Plant Department

Duties:  Performs grounds maintenance activities; cuts grass by using push and riding mowers; assists in the maintenance of outdoor field and athletic facilities; plants shrubs, trees, flowers, and vegetation following detailed plans and directions; removes dirt, trash, and debris from assigned areas and transports to the appropriate disposal facility; performs removal of snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment; spreads salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping; operates equipment, e.g., tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, edgers, and shovels; operates small vehicles and small tractors; landscapes, mulches, and fertilizes within designated areas; assists with MSU’s recycling efforts by collecting items to be recycled and ensuring that they are taken to  designated areas; performs other duties, as required.    

Preferred:      High School Diploma or GED.

Requirements:  Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; ability to follow  instructions; ability to operate hand and power tools and other equipment; ability to perform minor maintenance to equipment; ability to perform work in, on and around  trees, shrubs, buildings and facilities; ability to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting; ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
