Department:    Child Development/Head Start

Duties:   Plans. implements and assesses the Education Service program;  consults with the Program Director and Specialists regarding program needs and revisions;  implements educational program goals; supervises the teaching staff and education activities; trains and conducts orientation of education staff; coordinates referrals with agencies and services; orders classroom supplies; coordinates arrangements for field trips; plans, approves, and monitors teacher schedules; observes teaching staff on an ongoing basis for the purpose of assessing and providing technical assistance; evaluates teacher’s performance; assesses children progress;  coordinates home learning activities; calls substitutes and volunteers; models appropriate behavior with children; attends meetings and conducts conferences with teachers on a regular basis; and performs other duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:   Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education; One (1) year of supervisory experience; Three (3) years of experience in a preschool classroom. Possession of a valid Maryland Class C or equivalent driver’s license.

Preferred:    Access to a vehicle.

Requirements:   Knowledge of principles of Early Childhood Education; knowledge and ability to demonstrate teaching techniques to staff and parents; ability to coordinate programs; ability to motivate; ability to organize; ability to problem solve; ability to plan; ability to communicate effectively; ability to develop and maintain positive community relationships with parents; ability to work days or evenings.
