Student Conduct

The resident shall conduct him/ herself in a manner which promotes a safe, secure, courteous and quiet residence hall and environment conducive to the pursuit of academic goals, as well as individual and community development and welfare.

The resident shall ensure that his/ her roommate will have access to and equitable use of assigned space. The resident will abide by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures established by the Office of Residence Life and Food Service as published in this Handbook and other relevant residence hall documents, and the policies and procedures established by the University. Rules and regulations are intended to promote the safety and well-being of the residents. Violation of rules and regulations can constitute grounds for termination of the agreement. When it is determined by Residence Life and other appropriate University officials that a student has violated State or Federal laws and/or University rules and regulations, and/or when such conduct indicates that the student constitutes a threat to the safety, health, or well-being of community members or him/ herself, then disciplinary and/or administrative action, including termination of the housing contract may be taken.

The resident accepts responsibility for and agrees to be held accountable for his/ her own actions and those of his/ her guest(s); for the proper care and use of the residence hall and dining facility, assigned space, common areas, and University property; and for promptly reporting any interruptions of service or any needed repair. The resident will take responsible action to protect and prevent the residence hall and dining facility and property from wanton, reckless or negligent damage; will refrain from encouraging or participating in activities which cause damages to occur; will promptly report property or hall damages; and will take responsible actions to assist the University in identifying individuals responsible for damage. The resident, at the time of check out, will return the assigned space and its University furnishings in the same condition as they were received, with the exception of reasonable wear and tear as determined by the ORL. The resident assumes responsibility for the appropriate use of safety and security devices within his/her assigned space and building and will immediately report loss of any assigned keys.

Residents are also expected to show respect for the residence hall staff. Continuous harassment, insubordination and gross disrespect for residence hall personnel and other residents will not be tolerated. All complaints or concerns about a person's conduct, or a particular danger or inconvenience should be immediately brought to the attention of the Residence Life Staff for appropriate action.
