Department of Behavioral Health Sciences
Welcome to the SCHP Behavioral Health Sciences Department. The Behavioral Health Sciences department provides both Masters and doctoral level course and training required to fulfill requirements for generalist Masters in Public Health and Doctorate in Public Health degrees. The program also offers both Masters of Public Health Concentration in Behavioral Health Sciences and Doctor of Public Health Concentration in Behavioral Health Sciences.
The mission of the Department of Behavioral Health Sciences (BHS) is to train public health professionals who will be engaged in the promotion of health and prevention of disease and illness in underserved populations working in collaboration with community partners. In order to fulfill this mission, BHS will focus on research on the social and behavioral determinants of health problems and the application of evidence-based models and principles to address these problems and reduce their impact on communities. Therefore, in training, research and practice, BHS students and faculty members will be committed to promoting optimal health, the elimination of health disparities, and the reduction of the overall burden of chronic and acute health and social problems in a culturally relevant manner.
