Center for Academic Success and Achievement
Welcome Second Year Students!
The Second Year Experience (SYE) program is designed to engage all students returning to Morgan State for the second year in out-of-classroom (experiential) learning opportunities to enhance their career readiness skills. By engaging in experiential learning opportunities such as internships, job shadowing, campus to career field trips, study abroad, etc. you are able to acquire the soft skills employers desire. Soft skills include communication, self-motivation, leadership, responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving, flexibility, negotiation and conflict, and time management.
Second-year students who engage in an experiential learning opportunity can apply for $2,500 scholarships or receive a laptop and book award for their participation.
To find an experiential learning opportunity you can:
- Meet with your assigned SYE Coach
- Review the list of Experiential Learning Opportunities section
- Research and find an opportunity on your own
After completing your experiential learning activity, you MUST complete an Experiential Learning Plan (ELP).
By completing an ELP, you will be eligilble to apply for a scholarship; you can be entered into the raffle to win a laptop or book award; and you will receive an SYE t-shirt and other SYE swag.
SYE COACHES
As a second-year student you are assigned an SYE Coach to assist you with finding an experiential learning opportunity. Coaches are assigned according to the school/college you belong to.
