Department of Public and Allied Health
Welcome to the Department of Public and Allied Health, an interdisciplinary department that houses three programs: Nutritional Science, Health Education and the Public Health Program. The goal of the Department of Public and Allied Health is to provide a collegial interdisciplinary learning environment that produces strong public and allied health practitioners and leaders who use their in-depth content knowledge and skills to improve the health and well-being at the population level.
The mission of the Department of Public and Allied Health is to prepare undergraduates for careers and graduate education and to prepare public health graduate students to be public health leaders focused on increasing health equity by working with the community to solve public health problems in urban settings.
We are committed to producing effective practitioners, researchers and leaders who are ethical, have excellent communication skills, and can work collaboratively to develop effective strategies to solve problems and promote health and well-being in communities. Our faculty are engaged in projects and research that are community-informed, relevant, and community-based. The department provides numerous opportunities for experiential learning, service learning and community service activities as our school is rooted in community. The department is committed to meeting the educational and professional preparation needs of all of our students so that they can be innovative and adaptable in the ever-changing health environment.
