Department of History, Geography, and Museum Studies
The Department of History, Geography, and Museum Studies at Morgan State University offers a wide range of courses and degrees. Our outstanding and diverse international faculty and our rigorous programs prepare students for professional life by teaching them to read analytically, think critically, write persuasively, and learn comprehensively.
The discipline of History offers students the analytic and critical thinking skills they can take into any profession. Understanding the past enables one to better prepare for the future, analyze the present, and understand the process of recording, narrating, and interpreting the past via the historical method. The discipline of Geography enhances our knowledge of the earth and broadens our view of the aspects of different cultures and societies. It uses tools such as cartography, geographic information systems, and quantitative methods to analyze processes that influence the natural and built environments. Museum Studies and Historical Preservation advances our understanding of historic resources and the processes necessary for their preservation.
Armed with such skills, graduates from the Department of History, Geography, and Museum Studies are prepared to work in a wide variety of fields and careers. These include:
