Current Faculty Members Appear in Stanford University’s Global Ranking of
Foremost Scientific Scholars in Academia

BALTIMORE — Morgan State University, Maryland’s Preeminent Public Urban Research University, is home to one of the nation’s most diverse faculties, an esteemed group consisting of more than 600 academics spanning 11 schools and colleges. Included among Morgan’s notable professors and research faculty are some of the world’s foremost scientists, according to a 2022 Stanford University-led study. Eight current Morgan faculty members are ranked among the “World’s Top 2% of Scientists” by Stanford. This assessment of more than 200,000 researchers, among the 10 million scientists active globally, is considered the most prestigious such ranking worldwide. It evaluates the bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database and ascribes a ranking based on peer-reviewed publication of an individual’s research. The scientists included in the rankings represent 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields.

“To achieve our goal of becoming a Carnegie-classified R1 (highest research) university, Morgan must employ a critical number of the world’s leading scientists to administer instruction in our classrooms and conduct advanced research in our laboratories. We’ve accomplished that here at Morgan, as evidenced by faculty we have ranked within the world’s top 2%,” said David K. Wilson, president of Morgan. “The eight current faculty members who have been so ranked exemplify the standard of excellence upheld by this institution and further distinguish Morgan as an attractive destination for some of the world’s leading academic minds.”

The statistical data examined to compile the rankings is divided into two lists: “2022 Annual Scientific Influence Ranking” and “Lifetime Scientific Influence Ranking.” The former highlights the academic influence of scientists in the previous year, and the latter counts the comprehensive influence performance of scientists during their careers. The following presents the Morgan faculty members who appear on the single-year performance and career-long performance ranking lists.
